DTC Removal
In every modern vehicle, an ECU (electronic computing unit) resides that takes care of a lot of tasks that make your vehicle run smooth and efficient. Think about injection timing, taking care of coolant flows, regulating exhaust filtering and for example, monitoring the airbag system.
When something goes wrong, the ECU in most cases tries to compensate with multiple routines built into the software by the manufacturer. Most of the time you won’t even notice the calculations that are constantly being made in the ECU. But when something does go wrong, the ECU will send a warning to your dashboard and inform you about the issue. These messages, or better said, codes, contain valuable information about the problem that has been found by the ECU. These codes are so-called DTC codes.
DTC codes consist of a variety of combinations but they have been standardized.
Codes that begin with a B reflect codes that are related to the body of the vehicle. For example airbag system, seatbelt tensioners, occupant sensors in the seats or side restraint sensors.
Codes beginning with a C reflect Chassis codes. There are a lot of chassis codes available but for example they can be related to vehicle speed sensing, wheel sensors, ABS systems, fuel pumps, torque monitoring or for example parking functionalities.
Codes beginning with an U are codes about the network communication system that the ECU uses to communicate with other components in your vehicle. These codes are not very common, but can occur when something is very wrong with the wiring of your vehicle.
At last we have also the P codes. These are the most common codes that can occur, and they are related to the Powertrain. Powertrain DTC codes indicate issues with your vehicles’ engine itself or parts that are directly related to it. Some examples are the airflow, coolant temperature measuring, barometric pressure sensing, intake air temperatures, supercharger monitoring, fuel enrichment and mixture and so on. When we are tuning your vehicle we always try to optimize the ECU as good as possible so DTC codes are rarely seen. With a good tuning, all the variables mix up in a good way so that both the engine and the rest of the vehicle run smooth and efficient.
When error codes do occur, we can in most cases remove them for you by either optimizing the software so that everything is corrected, or remove the code itself. The latter is only needed in special cases where for example you have modified your vehicles’ hardware (special tuning).
